GT's Book Review

Hey there...today I've decided to start a new series on my blog called "GT's Book Review"...

Books are BIG in our house.  We love books.  There aren't many things sweeter in the world than rounding the corner to a silent bedroom to see your child contently flipping through the pages of a story book.

GT has already "read" books to me...sure, he's reciting them from memory, but my heart melted the first time I realized that he could read to me, as we have been reading to him since he was a newborn.

So...without further adieu...and with a little inspiration from my bloggin' buddy Andie over at CrayonFreckles - I bring you....

GT's Book Review

Our area has a terrific library system.  It's outrageous, really...It's a favorite pass time of ours to visit the library and load up on a stack of books to take home.  A lot of the time, we just wander the shelves and pull things that strike our fancy - but this time, we went looking for some specific items to help us with things we are working on with GT, like rhyming, counting to 20, and most specifically, the book Press Here that Andie talked about on her blog.

First up:

DEFINITE MUST READ for the KIDDOS

GT loved this book!!  It was interactive, each page gives you instructions on what dot to press and which way to press it, which in turn, moves the dots all over the pages of the book...it was a lot of fun & we never read it just once...every time we got to the end, I'd hear - let's read it again!!

Rhyming is BIG in our house right now...GT LOVED this book!!...and I did too!!  Throughout the book, you are helping Sherman pick which shoes he should choose for specific activities...

 

A Great Book!

One of the things we are working on with GT right now is counting to 20.  He's pretty well got it, except for he does get a little mixed up with 15 & 16...
This book was great for a few reasons...since we are big on not just reading the words of books, but also examining and talking about the pictures on each page - we liked how this book provided an activity for us to "find the four little chicks" on each page of the book.  Totally up our alley!!

Ehhh...

We picked this book because it has Curious George in it.  GT likes Curious George...I'm still deciding if I'm a fan or not...I felt like this book was trying to hard... In a nutshell - at the start of the story, there is a missing puppy...as the story progresses, Curious George lets all of the other puppies out of their cage at the kennel and there are puppies everywhere - the adults end up finding the missing puppy after they get all of the other puppies back in their cages - and then they find the missing puppy - the book pretty much excuses Curious George's naughty behavior...something I am not a fan of!!  We are about accountability in our house!!!  Curious George was being a BAD monkey!!

 

Ehhh....

This book is the companion to the book Goodnight Moon, which is one of our favorites.  This book was ok...nothing too exciting.  GT liked it...I wasn't so impressed.



Not too bad...

This book is just what it says - This Little Piggy illustrates the fun game that I'm sure we've all played with tootsies one time or another...it was a good book.



Phooey is Right!!

This book was terrible.  I don't know what I was expecting my picking it...I guess I thought the illustrations were good.  The book takes you on a walk with a very sourpuss little boy - who doesn't find appreciation for anything until the very end of the book.  For me, it was a whole lot of negative to sit through just to get to the "message"... I did NOT like this book.

A Relaxing Weekend At Home...

My weekend - the kids are just getting over their sickness, so we laid pretty low all weekend. Here's a recap...because I know you are DYING to know what we've been up to... (I kid, I kid...)

Friday - I finished Vadyn's hat....unfortunately, I didn't pay close enough attention to the gauge (gauge is very important when crocheting...pretty sure this is the first thing the teacher mentioned in class)...and it ended up being too big for her....so that meant that I had to start another one!!!

After putting the kids to bed on Friday night, Gordon & I watched Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder. Awesome, awesome flick. I highly recommend it.
Saturday - Gordon worked all day and I continued on my quest to crochet Vadyn a sunhat for our walks...  The rain kept us inside, but it didn't stop us from having fun.  I broke out our dry erase markers at the suggestion of one of the blogs I follow - and we had a little artsy fartsy fun on the sliding glass door to the deck.

Did anyone happen to catch the sunset Saturday night???  Wow-za!!

Sunday - Gordon headed off to work again and the kids and I stayed home and kicked butt around the house. Sunday evening ended with dinner at "our" Mexican restaurant and GT ended up heading home to spend the night with his Mimi and Papa. This was his first official overnight. We missed him A LOT!!  Gordon and I ended the night (after watching the season finale of The Walking Dead) with The Poseidon Adventure.  Two for two on awesome movies!!

 Monday, Vadyn and I enjoyed the day at home (as much as we could enjoy it, without GT's company)...

We (Vadyn helped a little) folded the mountain of laundry that had been waiting for me, while we watched Tangled.  Another great movie!  Also yesterday, I finished Vadyn's hat...let me know what you think of it...or if you would like one!!  (I am now accepting custom orders :-))

Which brings us to today......Happy First Day of Spring!!!  I don't know what's gotten into me (oh yes, I do - spring fever!!!)...but it is soooo hard to stay inside today.  I just want to be outside playing with my babies and breathing in the fresh, spring air!!

I know...nothing tooooo exciting, but don't you feel much better now that you know???

1.  Getting together with my cousin, Lisa, and her babies last Friday...it was a lot of fun & long overdue...

...for, oh...sooooo many reasons...

3)  crocheting...I'm working on a sun hat for Vadyn...don't worry...I'll share the finished product.

Hopefully it will be done later today!!

4) My blogging buddy LaTosha...for introducing me to Cream of

_________ Soup.  Don't knock it 'til you try it, people.  Seriously - AMAZING.




Use it anytime a recipe calls for a can of condensed "Cream of" soup.
